PCG seeks an experienced special education leader to help PCG and school districts/state departments of education across the nation to improve student outcomes and instructional practices, guide district policies related to special education services and equity, and support implementation of high-quality professional development and student curriculum.

The Special Education Subject Matter Expert will actively lead and participate in the design, development and delivery of special education services to support teachers and district/state department of education leaders as they work to solve complex special education problems. Primary responsibilities involve working with schools, districts, and state departments of education, supporting their efforts to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities. Applicants must be strong analytical thinkers with excellent writing and presentation skills who are highly committed to improving education through a focus on students with IEPs. Applicants should be energetic, optimistic individuals who work well both independently and as part of a team to engage clients in the development and delivery of high-quality special education programs and services.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality online, face-to-face, and blended professional development and student curriculum aligned to client goals and expectations

  • Support capacity building at state, district, and school levels to incorporate higher academic standards and improve outcomes for students with disabilities

  • Train and coach a variety of audiences, including administrators, teachers, direct service providers, and paraprofessionals, in national and state-specific special education compliance, policy, and instructional best practices.

  • Collaborate with staff and clients to define and build services and technical assistance based on identified needs, trends, and mandates.

  • Support business development activities in close partnership with a focused business development team through participation in proposal development, demonstrations, conference participation, and strategic client conversations

  • Participate in developing and disseminating special education-related white papers, reports, guidance documents, blogs, training materials, and other written materials for clients and the firm.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of experience in a school district setting with demonstrated success and a strong reputation as an exceptional special education classroom teacher, service provider, and/or district administrator. Further, the successful candidate will exhibit a deep understanding of key policy issues and trends that affect special education and equity issues and be able to apply these in creating professional development and student curriculum materials.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of special education regulations, policies and instructional practices, including early childhood, transition, communication and assistive technology

  • Experience developing content for delivery in learning management systems and blended settings

  • Knowledge of current trends in curriculum, teaching methods, and strategies, including best practices in school improvement, leadership development, adult learning theory and professional development, planning and project management, and collaboration, coordination, and facilitation of work groups.

  • Knowledge of staff development applies to teaching and learning and leading professional learning communities.

  • Knowledge of group dynamics and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences orally and in writing, including electronic media

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, time-sensitive work environment

  • Ability to analyze and use data to identify professional development needs

  • Understanding of how to evaluate, improve, and report on the effectiveness of professional development

  • Ability to read and interpret journals, articles, and research studies

  • Effective in teaching adults and enjoy working with diverse clients and teams

  • Positive, can-do attitude in tackling complex and persistent problems affecting schools and communities

  • Creative problem-solving ability and dedication to accomplishing goals and challenges presented by clients and management

  • Flexible, self-starter possessing intellectual curiosity

  • Ability to operate in both a team situation and autonomously with minimal supervision

  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Google Classroom, Learning Management Systems, and web design software

  • Experience in creating and growing innovative programs

  • Experience in grant writing, research, proposals

Required Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in special education or a related field of expertise (Master’s preferred)

  • 5+ years of experience in a school district setting with demonstrated success and a strong reputation as an exceptional special education classroom teacher, service provider, and/or school district administrator

  • 2+ years of developing and providing professional development, training, or coaching

As required by applicable law, PCG provides the following reasonable range of compensation for this role: $85,000-$100,000. In addition, PCG provides a range of benefits for this role, including medical and dental care benefits, 401k, PTO, parental leave, bereavement leave.

Compensation for roles at Public Consulting Group varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.
