LOCATION: Topeka, Kansas

PAY RANGE: $99,200 - $132,300

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting through Generation Reliability, this position will be responsible for the team that monitors and diagnoses equipment issues using advanced pattern recognition and will contribute to the monitoring and diagnostic efforts. Individual will be responsible for ensuring that all members of the monitoring and diagnostic center provide advanced condition monitoring and data analysis of critical power generation systems and components, consistent with high performance expectations.

Position will interface with all levels of plant personnel as well as corporate support organizations.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Review and assess plant equipment condition using Advanced Pattern Recognition software.

  • Triage developing issues to appropriate plant contacts and advise course of action

  • Work with engineering to track and monitor thermal performance.

  • Create, tune, and implement APR models in EtaPRO APR software.

  • Monitor equipment performance and predict component health, alerting appropriate SME’s and station personnel of anomalies which could adversely affect the reliability, availability, maintainability and performance of equipment.

  • Master all aspects of the monitoring and diagnostic (M&D) center software tools including, but not limited to, APR, thermal performance, PI, PIAF, and PI Vision.

  • Work with reliability analysts/engineers to capture and quantify avoided costs to express the value of the team’s activities.

  • Supervise a team of individual contributors and manage performance of clear expectations and goals that align to the company strategy.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Prior experience in a Monitoring and Diagnostics Center is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of power plant experience is preferred. 5 years of power plant operating and/or maintenance experience will be considered. Related experiences including knowledge of rotating equipment and thermodynamics is preferred. Previous experience in leadership or supervision is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

  • Working knowledge of advanced analytics

  • Working knowledge of advanced pattern recognition and thermal performance software or other reliability or condition based predictive diagnosis software applications.

  • Working knowledge of condition monitoring and diagnostic technologies

  • Strong working knowledge of rotating components such as pumps, motors, steam turbines, and generators and field instrumentation

  • Familiarity with condition-based maintenance programs and technology applications

  • Familiarity with gas combined cycle and peaker plant technologies, coal fired power plants, wind turbines, solar plants, nuclear power plants, and associated systems and operation.

  • Effective English communication and technical report writing skills.

  • Must be proficient with various software programs and systems (e.g., MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as database use

  • Must be able to concentrate and understand complicated issues and/or instructions.

  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision, perform in a team environment, as well as effectively communicate with others.

  • Must possess good problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Working Conditions:

Majority of work will be conducted in a normal office environment. Position will require occasional travel to other locations within the company. Requires some work beyond normal working hours as workload, project deadlines, and service restoration efforts warrant. Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance.
