Oracle User Experience Writer in Topeka, Kansas
Job Description
At Opower, we’re passionate about creating a clean energy future. We partner with utilities to design customer experiences that save energy. If making a positive impact on the world through writing is important to you, we’d love to speak with you.
We are hiring for an experienced UX Writer to further our Design team’s writing practice. Through the craft of writing, you will apply industry knowledge, design heuristics, behavioral science, and psychology to drive outcomes at a massive scale. Opower was founded in 2007, and still has the spirit of a startup, with the backing and infrastructure that comes from a tech giant like Oracle.
You Get Excited By:
Strategic communication tailored for the wide range of audiences we reach. Our team has a principle to design for “everyone who uses energy.”
The craft of writing, including grammar, brand, styles, and current UX Writing trends
Collaborating within and across disciplines towards a common goal
Making complex data easy to understand
Changing the world for the better through writing
Desired Qualifications:
5+ years of relevant experience writing for consumer digital products
A published portfolio of easily understandable, compelling, and impactful content
Bonus points for experience working in-house on a digital product design team &/or experience with the utilities industry
Career Level - IC3

Own the UX Writing discipline at Opower, functioning as both a senior contributor and as an internal subject matter expert
Define and maintain Opower’s style guide—to expand your reach in the organization, scale the discipline, educate clients, and enable sales conversations
Establish a consistent writing process to ensure high quality across all new content that makes its way to market. Determine the highest impact workstreams you want to own directly, versus others where oversight of content from others may be enough
Deliver content ranging from UI labels to complex explanations of utility rate plans, solar billing, and data science capabilities
Tie writing choices to business outcomes, bearing in mind the variety of energy outcomes our products are designed to shift
Understand when words are the right communication medium, versus when other means would be more effective
Guide translation vendors on voice and intent to ensure the integrity of our content across languages
Educate cross functional stakeholders on when and how to work with you
