The Workers Compensation Manager provides direct oversight to the third-party administrator (Liberty Mutual) of the workers compensation program for both Lawton, OK and Topeka, KS plants and is the single point-of-contact for the claim’s management process. This role will develop metrics, provide technical expertise, enforce policies and provide problem resolution to reduce the number/cost of occupational injuries. You will facilitate return-to-work (RTW) or stay-at-work (SAW) programs (including the RTW credit program), and performs analysis of monthly data in support of department goals and business unit needs (with reporting functions to management, plants, auditors and vendors). Additionally, you will educate, train and motivate plant leadership regarding workers compensation processes, metrics and compliance requirements. In addition, you will work closely with Goodyear's Legal team and local counsel in all workers compensation litigation cases to ensure the most appropriate outcome for the case. Travel between plants is required up to 1 week per month and as needed.
Principal Responsibilities :
Provides direct oversight of the workers compensation program.
Performs analysis of monthly data in support of department goals and business unit needs, with reporting functions to management, plants, auditors and vendors. Recognize trends and identify process improvements - Implement location-specific workers compensation programs (based on business need and legal requirements).
Leads partnership with the carrier (Liberty Mutual) and medical providers to facilitate the claim to final resolution. Resolve issues in partnership with attorneys, vendors and medical providers (as needed). Provide strategy recommendations by actively engaging in workers compensation claim review.
Audit department staff to ensure all leave data is properly entered into Workday and GoldColors. Ensures supplemental workers compensation (SWC) claims are properly filed and monitored. Make process improvement recommendations based on findings of audit. Resolve overpayments/underpayments for the client group and communicate findings.
Lead, train and motivate location leadership to support aggressive workers compensation claim management. Maintain regular communication to develop relationships for review of programs, training and identifying opportunities for improvement. Develop specific mentoring programs with location leaders (as needed). Establish solid working relationship with local union leaders.
Required Experience and Education:
Bachelors’ degree, Masters’ degree desired.
4 or more years of experience handling a workers’ compensation program.
1 or more years of experience working with a third-party administrator or insurance carrier – Desired.
Personal Skills/Attributes/and Qualifications:
Technical expertise in workers compensation claim processing, cost drivers, settlement practices and transitional work programs.
Solid understanding of financial analysis to review program costs and reserving practices.
Experience with claim investigation and litigation.
Working knowledge of government regulations associated with workers compensation.
Excellent communication and time management skills.
Team player who can influence and facilitate change.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
Ability to work with all levels of the organization and have ability to build strong working relationships with local unions.
