Position Title: Building Aide

GENERAL

Provides classroom and program support for teacher and students. Assists with meeting established student outcomes in their

capacity to master learning objectives: reinforcement activities, preparation, scheduling, communication, students\' personal needs,

and logistics as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure

manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively with administrators and staff.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to

deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situation.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists in helping students with academic and low self-esteem problems who may be \"at risk\" of falling behind in their study

skills; keeps regular student schedules; takes attendance; reports classroom work; keeps records for \"at risk\" students:

Works with students in math, science, social studies, and language arts as assigned; works with varied student behaviors.

Keeps smooth classroom structured environment to assist students\' behavior variations and controls behavior and/or

emergency situations.

Obtains lesson goals and objectives from teachers; uses continued reinforcement; communication skills, and supervision.

Assists with coordination of schedules for parent meetings on the telephone and takes all types of messages as required;

Assists with classroom plans for individual students: course enhancement for students\' intellectual enrichment; assists with

specific memory and study skills; and, assists individual students in achieving their learning objectives by working with them

individually and in small groups on alphabet, phonics, numbers, listening skills, activities to strengthen muscles, writing as

directed, etc.

Provides clarification of daily expectations to individual students and small groups to help in keeping students on task.

Prepares displays, events (in classroom and/or other environments); takes requests for printing from teacher, makes copies

required, and distributes copies in classroom; assists with various listening and learning opportunities accessing necessary

materials and/or equipment.

Supports classroom rules for student interaction (courtesy and respect for belongings, space and ideas), self control,

working independently, appropriately gaining the floor, and accepting reminders from teacher.

Prepares physical condition of classroom to reflect seasons and subject matter to facilitate student learning.

Manages all job duties to work with students in various circumstances with mobility, agility and dexterity to move from

place to place; focused observation to observe students\' performance, behavior and activities; agility and dexterity to

manually move, lift, pull or push objects; keeps recor ds and makes reports.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

Makes telephone calls as required.

Assists with transportation support activities as required.

Assists with other reports and files as needed.

Attends training and/or in-service provided.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Must support district mission, goals and objectives.

Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the District.

CONTRACT LENGTH

Equal to student contact days as determined by the BOE approved district calendar.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Shall have High School diploma or GED and meet NCLB Highly Qualified regulations
