Payroll & Data Specialist Job Description
General Purpose
There are three functions of this job; employee and hired subcontractor data processes, DOT compliance, and entering bills for accounts payable. To be successful in this position, you will be able to investigate and resolve payroll issues and ensure strict compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
Time and attendance processes
Calculating wages, benefits, tax deductions, wage garnishments, etc.
Prepare and process payroll
Responding to payroll related inquires
Perform account balance and payroll liability reconciliations
DOT employee file maintenance & retention for FMCSA compliance
Maintain employee coaching and incident files
Work with the safety partner to schedule regular safety meetings
Onboard new hires DOT new hire qualification files, schedule orientation, and follow-up to ensure a successful onboarding.
Qualify hired trucks - maintenance and retention of Certificate of Insurances
Enter bills into Quickbooks for accounts payable
Data Entry - DOT maintenance file and retention for FMCSA compliance
Credit card reconciliations
Prepare periodic payroll & compliance reports for review by management
Answer phones & take messages when other office personnel are unavailable.
Various other data entry tasks, utilizing excel and & other programs.
Experience and Requirements:
Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and payroll practices
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
High numerical aptitude
Detail-oriented
Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel in particular
Internet skills including use of e-mails, group messaging and data collection
Understanding of FMCSA regulations & compliance is preferred
Education Requirements
A minimum of 2 years\' experience working in payroll or a similar role or a minimum of 1 year experience working with an Associates/Bachelors degree
