Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Upper School Chemistry Teacher to join our dedicated team of educators. The Upper School Chemistry Teacher will lead students in exploring the fascinating world of chemistry, developing critical thinking skills, and cultivating a deep understanding of chemical principles and their applications. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator to inspire a love of chemistry and empower students to excel in this important scientific discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a rigorous and comprehensive chemistry curriculum for upper school students, covering fundamental concepts, laboratory techniques, and applications of chemistry in real-world contexts.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and interactive lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technology tools.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and investigations that allow students to apply theoretical concepts, develop scientific inquiry skills, and gain hands-on experience with chemical phenomena.
  • Foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills through analysis of experimental data, interpretation of chemical equations, and application of mathematical concepts in chemistry.
  • Integrate interdisciplinary connections and cross-curricular activities to demonstrate the interconnectedness of chemistry with other scientific disciplines and everyday life.
  • Provide individualized support and guidance to students as they navigate challenging concepts, solve problems, and develop laboratory skills.
  • Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments, including quizzes, tests, laboratory reports, and projects, providing timely and constructive feedback to support student growth and development.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported in their academic and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and promote interdisciplinary connections within the school community.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, upcoming assignments, and opportunities for involvement in their child\'s chemistry education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Chemistry, Education, or related field; Master\'s degree preferred.
  • Teaching certification/license in Chemistry or Science Education preferred.
  • Prior experience teaching chemistry at the upper school level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of chemistry concepts, principles, and laboratory techniques.
  • Enthusiasm for chemistry education and a genuine passion for inspiring students\' curiosity and interest in the field of chemistry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students in scientific inquiry and exploration.
  • Creativity and innovation in lesson planning and instructional delivery.
  • Ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters inquiry, critical thinking, and scientific literacy.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional growth and development in the field of chemistry education.
