Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Flight begins with you at Spirit AeroSystems, a place where you can explore your interests and grow your career by working on impactful projects. As an Engineering intern, you will work in one of these disciplines:

Research & Technology:

  • Research, develops, analyze, design and test company products using engineering and scientific principles.

  • Translate engineering and scientific concepts from preliminary ideas through product life cycle.

  • Research and develop material and processes that support the translation from abstract concepts to functional products and processes.

  • Apply knowledge of scientific methods and tools to define and characterize behavior of products, services, and processes.

  • Integrate technical, cost, value, and safety considerations into the product or process definition to comply with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.

  • Document results in drawings, data sets, reports, specifications, and supporting data.

  • Interface with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions to meet group, organization, and company objectives.

    Materials & Process:

  • Analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes.

  • Develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.

  • Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.

  • Develop, analyze and apply material properties and design allowables, processing methods and quality engineering specifications and standards.

  • Review and approve engineering drawings and documents for part conformance and to assist in resolving part failure analysis for fabrication, assembly and in service problems.

  • Applies knowledge of aerospace mechanical/structural component fabrication and assembly processes and technologies to establish research and development strategies and plans.

  • Develop and mature technology.

  • Facilitate technology implementation in production and provides support to the user community.

    Weights/Mass Properties:

  • Utilize 3D Modeling software and Weights applications to compute and document mass property data for an aircraft.

  • Develop aircraft knowledge, including a basic understanding of weight efficient design

  • Work within an Integrated Product Team

  • Apply knowledge of inertia and flight loads, materials and processes, standards, and manufacturing techniques

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • You must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident)

  • You must be enrolled full time in a university degree program aligned to the area of internship.

  • You must be a current sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing.
