Responsibilities
Provide therapeutic psychological counseling.
Assess a patient's psychological status and provide appropriate interventions and treatments.
Collaborate with nursing and ancillary service to provide appropriate psychological therapy for patient. Refer patients to other disciplines for consult and evaluations as indicated.
Provide psychological expertise and education to multidisciplinary team. Act as resource to other disciplines.
Communicate complex/sensitive information to patients and medical team.
Administer and interpret psychological tests used for diagnosing mental and personality disorders and differentiating between organic and functional cases of behavior disorders.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- Licensed Psychologist credentialed from the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board.
Education:
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) required.

This individual will be a core residency faculty member and will provide behavioral health care primarily in the outpatient setting and assists with the education of Family Medicine residents and medical students in collaboration with the Ascension Via Christi Family Medicine Residency Program and the Department of Family and Community Medicine at KUSM-Wichita.
Behavioral Scientist for the Family Medicine Residency Program:
• Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise residency curriculum in behavioral and community health, assuring that ACGME standards are met
• Supervise patient care and provide consultation and co-management services with resident-physicians
• Serve as an educational resource for residents and faculty caring for patients with behavioral health concerns
• Perform educational administrative duties as assigned
• Participate in the supervision, feedback, and evaluation process of residents
• Participate in recruitment of new residents
• Actively participate in Family Medicine faculty and resident meetings, conferences, committees and retreats
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety activities to improve efficiency and clinical care
• Provide direct patient care for patients in the family medicine center
• Develop own focus of scholarly activities
• Participate in faculty development activities
• Work collaboratively with the clinical team to provide patient-centered continuity of care
• Provide behavioral health student and medical student education supervision when it enhances the educational and patient care mission of the residency program
• Provide other services under direction of Program Director and Department Chair
