Job Description Summary:
The Surgical Skills Lab director supports the surgery department for KU School of Medicine-Wichita. This position is responsible for identifying, developing and directing surgical training labs for residents and medical students. This position will help develop evaluation assessments of the labs and provide oversight and leadership to various groups in the skills lab. This position will mentor and teach students. This position is .5 FTE.

Job Duties:
- In conjunction with the Education Director, develop and direct surgical training labs for surgery residents, medical students, and when requested, surgical attendings.
- Works with Chair, Program Directors and Associate Program Directors to develop training sessions that match the respective needs of surgery residents at their training level.
- Coordinates and helps to develop evaluation assessments of the labs with both the Education Director and the attending surgeon leading the lab.
- Collaborates actively with industry to utilize new products via hands-on demonstrations and trainee participation.
- Keep updated records of each event for successful yearly compliance with the ACS/AEI.
- Gives surgical oversight and leadership to the MS-4 boot camp, MS-3 Skills Lab Introduction, and the Surgical Interest Group-coordinating, when needed, with the Surgery Medical Student Clerkship Director, Coordinator, and Skills Lab Coordinator.
- Works to enhance Robotic Skills Training as well as supporting the ongoing on-site FLS (FundamentalsofLaparoscopicSurgery) and FES (FundamentalsofEndoscopic Surgery) testing.
- Mentor and teach students.
- Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum meetings and trainings, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Current Kansas Medical License
- Current board certification in general surgery or a surgical subspecialty
Work Experience:
- Demonstrated proficiency in clinical practice
- A clinical practice that includes working with KUMC-Wichita surgery residents.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the teaching of residents and medical students.
