The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

You’ll be joining a team of premier engineers building greenfield world-class platform services serving our greater engineering org using the latest technologies and tooling.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

Our cloud infrastructure automation teams are revolutionizing our entire engineering stack building platform as a service (PaaS) solutions for our container native cloud environments. You’ll help drive the creation of scalable, resilient and stable environments through Infrastructure as code. This is the role of an architect that spans across Kubernetes based technologies, as well as other aspects of pipeline tooling.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 3-6-12 months you will work toward completing?

In the first 3 months, the candidate will attain expertise over existing stack and Infrastructure pipeline code through active participation in coding

During the first 3 months, candidate will form an opinionated view of current and upcoming projects and contribute to the potential solutions being discussed

In the first 6 months, the candidate will be able to assess improvements needed to existing solutions, measure KPIs and lead atleast one project of complex scope

Between 6 and 12 months, candidate will be able to propose solutions to the improvement areas identified over the earlier months

In the first 12 months, candidate will be able to deliver one or more complex projects, potentially leading it end to end and working with a wide cross functional set of teams.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

• Optimize tools and processes for efficiency, cost, stability and developer productivity

• Help realize our North Star vision, collaborating with Senior architects, managers and engineers to translate into a set of feasible solutions and get it added to the roadmap

• Deliver infrastructure code for complex projects balancing innovation and business goals

• Constantly evolve the backlog of improvements for IaaC and rationalize prioritization

• Leverage programming skills to design and develop DevOps tooling on various infrastructure platforms

• Research, evaluate and select the right solutions from new and existing tools

• Evangelize and deliver standardized process and framework across services where relevant

• Support the extended engineering team in troubleshooting Infrastructure code failures

• Collaborate cross functionally with managers, architects and engineers to align on decisions

• Influence solutions through a combination of hands on coding, mentoring and thought leadership

• Up-skill engineers through mentoring and code reviews and build subject matter experts

• Assess deficiencies and points of failure in our system and design resolutions

• Help the team adopt new technologies on an ongoing basis, to solve complex problems

What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

• This role reports to the Senior Mgr who is responsible for cloud infrastructure as code

• The right candidate will work closely with teams and managers outside immediate reporting structure and with the leaders across the organization

• This is an architect role that represents thought leadership and team mentorship

• The team is highly collaborative, working closely with developers across the Business unit.

• This is a fairly new team that has delivered some incredibly complex solutions with agility and efficiency and set the organization on the path of a modern infrastructure platform in the recent past

What You'll Bring

• 9+ years of Software Engineering and/or Infrastructure engineering experience

• Experience architecting, implementing, maintaining scalable critical production infrastructure

• Extensive experience with Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD and config management tools

• Deep understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals and architecture

• Excellent Kubernetes diagnostic experience

• Experience with CRD/Operator patterns

• Proven hands-on cloud provider experience (AWS, Azure, Google etc) and services such as EC2, EKS, S3, VPC etc

• Experience working with cloud provider automation tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Ansible etc

• Strong analytical and programming skills (Python, Go, Java etc)

• Experience working with Kubernetes on large scale production clusters preferred

• Strong understanding of scale and performance impact of Infrastructure design

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent troubleshooting skills and great attention to detail

• Experience with monitoring solutions for troubleshooting

• Solid understanding of networking is a plus

• Security Experience a plus
