Under the supervision of the department manager, performs machining functions with CNC lathes, Screw Machine and other equipment to produce and ship quality products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned as required or needed

CNC Lathe

+ Will run 3 and 4 axis machines

+ May run more than one machine

+ Will remain present at machine to monitor machine function

+ Will blend and deburr own parts as needed

+ Does own basic setups, may assist others with set-ups

+ Checks first part and gets QA first part buy

+ Makes basic changes to machine to keep tolerances

+ Sets all X, Y, and Z offsets

+ Use all precision equipment including height gauge, micrometers, dial calipers, etc. as required or needed

+ May assist other employees when required

+ Maintains clear communication with all shifts via vocal and handwritten tie in notes at the machine.

+ Maintain daily part run averages located inside each set-up book

+ Maintain a clean work station including cleaning the inside and outside of machines at end of shift

+ Promotes and utilizes standard safety practices

Screw Machine

+ Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be machined, and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools to be used

+ Positions and secures specified collets, bushings, and stock pushers onto stock feeding mechanism and loads bar stock into feeding mechanism

+ Installs and adjusts specified cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station

+ Positions and secures tools in tool holders

+ Sets cutting speeds and feed rates

+ Moves controls to cycle machine through settings, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for operating factors such as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal

+ Starts machine, observes operation, and inspects first run and sample work piece to ensure machining conforms to specifications

+ Replaces worn tools

+ Operates bench grinder or surface grinder to sharpen tools

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent. Vo-tech certificate preferred. One year experience with CNC machines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to communicate machine problems, quality issues and other concerns or questions to departmental management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Good shop math skills. Ability to read blueprints.

REASONING ABILITY Must be quality conscious. Excellent problem solving skills. Maintain a professional work atmosphere by being courteous, respectful and non-interfering with customers, co-workers, and management.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. May be required to stand for extended periods of time. Good upper body strength with the ability to perform moderate repetitive movements which requires good use of hands/arms. Good eyesight with above average hand/eye coordination.
