VMware Corporate Counsel - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Wichita, Kansas

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Success for the candidate will be demonstrated through the following:

  • Become a trusted advisor to leaders in our sales organization on critical go-to-market issues and strategy.

  • Negotiate, draft and provide strategy for complex and strategic deals with VMware’s customers, including solutions such as software-as-a-service and subscription services, professional and consulting services, on premise software, and support; as well as data privacy and security issues.

  • Participate in various transformational projects and initiatives relating to VMware’s SaaS transformation and go-to-market strategy.

  • Develop and execute on a focus on client service, customer satisfaction and practical, smart risk-taking.

  • Drive continuous improvements in our contracts and negotiations, and related templates, playbooks, technology, and processes in collaboration with our GLS STAR Operations team.

  • Show exceptional collaboration skills with legal colleagues and peers across the region and in other geographies and areas of subject-matter expertise to a collegial atmosphere, provide quality support to the business and present a unified and coordinated face of “one Legal Team”.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • You possess excellent negotiating, drafting, and influencing skills, and have expert knowledge across a wide range of commercial contracting and legal matters.

  • You have a deep understanding of technology-related issues and solutions (legal, commercial and operational), including cloud/subscription services, software, and related services.

  • You are a strong critical and innovative thinker who possesses excellent business sense and judgment.

  • You are relentless in the pursuit of continuous improvement; learning new skills; and proactively addressing the needs of your business partners and clients.

  • You are a practical and enthusiastic problem-solver who is confident, mature and calm under fire and can work independently in a dynamic, fast-changing environment.

  • You are an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence outcomes.

  • You are a well-rounded, engaging and personable individual who appreciates and welcomes the benefits of working as part of a team while also being an independent self-starter.

  • You have strong organizational and presentation skills.

  • You demonstrate the highest degree of personal and professional integrity and ethics.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, with at least 4 years of in-house experience with a technology company with a SaaS/Subscription business model.

  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization and with all levels of management, consulting with key stakeholders.

  • Member of a State Bar and in good standing.

  • JD or equivalent law degree from an accredited law school.

This position will report directly to CJ Teasley, the Director & Assistant General Counsel, East Region, International and Commercial Law. ICL is a team of lawyers distributed across the globe that support VMware’s world-wide sales organization by providing complex transactional support and strategic advice and counsel. The Commercial Legal Group is one part of our award-winning Legal Department, which is a group of dedicated legal and customer-centric professionals who are enthusiastically committed to understanding and supporting every aspect of our fast-growing company.
