*Distinguishing Features of Work\ *The is a part-time, entry-level clerical and public contact position within the Human Resources Department. This role is responsible for providing specialized customer service to both internal and external customers, whether by telephone or in person, and for maintaining records. Customer services are delivered in accordance with established policies and procedures, and the specific information and knowledge required are learned on the job. While the work is performed independently, complex issues may be referred to a supervisor or lead position. This position will support all areas of Human Resources as needed or requested. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to manage tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Answers telephone and/or greets visitors, gives information, and takes messages.
  • Maintain confidential Human Resources files, including personnel records, medical files, and benefit files, in manual or electronic form.
  • Maintain supply of new employee materials, including orientation guides, and update accordingly.
  • Orders office supplies and print shop needs, performs monthly reconciliation to ensure accuracy.
  • Gathers and distributes mail on a daily basis.
  • Accept service inquiries by phone or in personal contact and assists customers as needed.
  • Serves as back-up for Customer Service Clerk II for purposes of reception area customer support and administration of clerical testing.

Requirements of Work

  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products, and be comfortable with and capable of learning new software, including that which is specialized to the department.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with the four functions of mathematics
  • Some knowledge of basic record-keeping methods
  • Ability to use a computer to access, interpret, and record information
  • Ability to accept and respond to a steady volume of requests for information and/or service, both in person and over the phone
  • Ability to access records in file cabinets, books, and/or on microfilm
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 20 pounds daily.
  • May require ability to use a calculator with speed and accuracy
  • May require ability to count money and make change
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of outside agencies, and the public
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver\'s license
