Job Title: Demand Planning Analyst

Location: Wichita, KS or Chicago, IL

Reports to: Director, Demand Planning

Summary

The Demand Planning Analyst creates our U.S.-focused demand plan through the application of statistical forecast models and other analytical tools. The ideal candidate for this position has strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities, an understanding of the importance of demand planning to the supply chain and a statistical modeling and tool-building aptitude. This role will interface with the demand planning team to bring an analytical perspective to the overall demand plan with the intent of identifying and eliminating the controllable elements that drive error in the forecast.

Primary Responsibilities

Improve SKU-level forecasts by creating, maintaining & managing statistical models in the demand planning module (SAP IBP/DP) of our ERP system.

Drive statistical forecasts accuracy by monitoring sales order history, managing item profiles, and selecting the appropriate level of aggregation/disaggregation for a given forecast record.

Lead our long-range planning initiatives through the creation of statistical forecast models.

Manage and enhance existing FVA (forecast value-add) tools to improve efficiency of demand planning activity.

Manage WFA (weighted forecast accuracy) reporting and analyze bias and root-cause issues that drive forecast error.

Maintain PLC (product life cycle) tables for items within the demand plan to balance the transition of old-to-new items based on inventory levels.

Gain an understanding of channel/customer activity, market growth, competitive market share and apply this knowledge to project a range of high, medium and low forecasts outcomes. Develop tools and reports to support demand planners in solving forecasting challenges within their customer demand plans.

Liaise with the GIT (global information technology), consultants & NSC (centralized Newell E2E supply chain team) to develop and test enhancements to our demand planning tool.

Qualifications

1-2 years of analytical experience in a consumer-packaged goods environment

Working knowledge of applied statistics through curriculum and/or experience

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, operations management or a related field

Knowledge of Excel (conditional formatting, v-lookups, data visualization, pivot tables, if-then statements & formula writing) and experience with other Microsoft Office products

Working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP & IBP preferred)

Ability to work independently and identify and resolve complex problems

Good verbal and written communication skills
