Job Description Summary:

The Director of Administrative & Financial Services leads the department and its staff to ensure that the KU School of Medicine-Wichita budget, financial systems, contracts, and administrative processes are developed and executed to advance the mission of the medical school. This leadership position shall collaborate with colleagues at KUMC and KU-Lawrence to ensure financial goals and objectives are consistent with the university\'s mission and compliant with all rules, regulations, Board of Regents policy, and state of Kansas policies and procedures.

Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Lead the annual budget process for the school to ensure resources are aligned with the school\'s educational mission.
  • Ensure the monitoring of all school funds for fiscal integrity and accounting control.
  • Responsible for coordination of the fiscal year-end process, including the annual service center fee process, with school departments and KUMC.
  • Coordinate the review and execution of all contracts in partnership with KUMC and KU-Lawrence to ensure appropriate legal and purchasing reviews are performed.
  • Act as the primary fiscal representative to the school\'s hospital partners as it relates to GME faculty budgets and contracts.
  • Responsible for the GME timesheet collection process and reconciliation.
  • Develop organizational staffing plans and assure that employees with the appropriate experience and skills are hired, onboarded, trained, supervised, have individual goals and development plans; receive annual performance evaluations and where necessary implement appropriate employee discipline.
  • Select and retain excellent employees and act to ensure their continued development. Set high, achievable goals and foster professional growth. Lead by example with the result that department employees are empowered to achieve their objective as relates to accounting activities, budgeting, contracting, and purchasing.
  • Ensure that department systems provide cohesive support to the medical school\'s mission and that Administrative & Financial Services operates effectively within ethical, financial, prudent business practice and legal parameters.
  • Responsible for the budgetary and business affairs of the department in accordance with State and University regulations.
  • Ensure that security, compliance, and best practices are met to protect data and network systems.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with other medical school personnel and internal and external partners that result in the accomplishment of respective missions.
  • Actively participate in school-related committees as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor\'s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum seven (7) years of related experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the interaction of complex organizations and success in achieving organizational missions.
  • Demonstrated success in envisioning, planning, and executing projects.
  • Demonstrated success in interacting professionally and respectfully with all audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to act in the best interest of the school, even in instances of individual and/or systemic re istance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master\'s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of related experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years managerial experience.
  • Experience in higher education and/or academic medical center.
  • Experience in analyzing submission requirements and preparing nominations, with the ability to identify new opportunities.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Workday and Adaptive.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting.
