To be a successful Education Liaison you must become able to do the following always:
- Ensure a trauma informed focus on creating a safe and supportive environment for staff and those served through knowledge, sensitivity, respect, and a focus on resilience and recovery.
- Responsible for connecting children and families to educational opportunities and resources to meet their needs. Provide support in navigating the public school system and offer children and families information regarding state and federal guidelines.
- Refer youth with a disability and/or who are receiving services under an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) based on disability to appropriate educational resources. Collaborate with IEP teams about accommodations, goals, and outcomes.
- Cultivate relationships with schools and administrators and serve as a liaison for children and families served.
- Stay up to date on educational reform issues which will inform and enhance service delivery. Identify and overcome systemic obstacles to school success. Focus on removal of barriers to support educational outcomes to include credit recovery, IEP, 504 plans, tutoring, and increased graduation rates.
- Work with Quality Improvement to track and monitor Department of Children and Families (DCF) success indicators (educational progression, completion of 12th grade, and children remain in the same school. Partner with the Permanency Services and Independent Living Teams to assess and address improvement opportunities related to success indicators.
- Follow Company Policy and Procedure and operate according to the Companys Program Practice Guidelines.
