Distinguishing Features of Work

This is a professional and supervisory position managing golf course and clubhouse operations at assigned golf course(s). Work involves general management of clubhouse and golf course business in accordance with the policies and procedures of the City of Wichita.The position works independently within established policies, guidelines and regulations.Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Manages golf services and operations of assigned course(s).
  • Oversees collection of greens fees, cart rentals, concession revenues, driving range sales and rental and maintenance of golf carts.
  • Makes daily deposits.
  • Oversees the reservation system, starting times and monitoring of play.
  • Enforces rules and regulations governing golf course usage.
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates clubhouse staff in the operations of managing golf play; food/beverage services; and golf cart maintenance.
  • Coordinates maintaining the clubhouse in a presentable fashion.
  • Assists in developing a budget for assigned clubhouse operations and monitors operations within the established budget and generated revenue.
  • Oversees the daily cash receipts and accounting, daily deposits, concessions inventory, records and reports.
  • Implements cash and systems controls to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory and resources.
  • Plans and implements public relations activities, including golfer development programs.
  • Represents the City to public groups and golf professionals; presents a professional public image for marketing municipal golf course(s).
  • Provides technical assistance to the public on the game of golf, including organizing leagues, scoring golf tournaments, and recommending appropriate equipment and golf rules.
  • Performs program evaluation for future policy development and revision of existing programs.
  • Cooperates with Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor regarding frost delays, driving range and maintenance scheduling.
  • Completion of work assignments will require the operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals, techniques, rules and regulations involved in and the skills required for participation in the game of golf.
  • Considerable knowledge of the objectives and methods used in planning, organizing, promoting and operating golf leagues, tournaments and open play.
  • Considerable knowledge of golf course business operations and golfing equipment.
  • Some knowledge of golf course maintenance operations.
  • Ability to manage the daily operations of a golf course.
  • Ability to present and maintain a professional public image.
  • Ability to accurately maintain daily cash accounts and other records and prepare related reports
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to walk and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist
  • Ability to walk outdoors over uneven terrain for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb indoor and outdoor stairs
  • Ability to bend, stoop and twist to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Ability to operate a cash register and basic office equipment, golf carts, public address system, computer, and telephone
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, representatives of other organizations, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain food handler\'s, cereal maltbeverage, and valid Kansas driver\'s licenses

Required Experience and Training

High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited four year university or college with emphasis in business or recreation management preferred

Possession of a valid Class A Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Membership Card or Class A Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Membership Card preferred; or must have at least eight years experience in golf operations that includes 3 years of supervisor experience and two years of teaching experience required.

Two years of experience working with Junior Golf programs required

Valid Driver\'s License
