The Community Consortium and Group Education Coordinator will oversee the development and implementation of the Healthy Babies Program (HB) Community Consortium, and Group Education Offerings. This position is expected to ensure the objectives of the Healthy Start Initiative (HSI) are met, including the recruitment and coordination of Consortium members and group education providers, the facilitation of Consortium meetings and group education sessions, and the dissemination of reports related to HSI performance measures. The purpose of HSI is to improve health outcomes before, during, and after pregnancy and reduce the well-documented racial/ethnic differences in rates of infant death and adverse perinatal outcomes.

Community Consortium Project Management

  • Coordinate, lead, and provide guidance to the HSI Community Consortium.
  • Serve as a liaison to community leaders, physicians, hospitals, related family service providers and agencies, civic groups, advocates, and others
  • Provide technical assistance in grant writing
  • Prepare statistical and/or narrative reports; monitor progress of performance measures and work with Consortium Members to recommend improvement plans.
  • Provide presentations to stakeholders on disparities in perinatal health outcomes and consults with partners on ways in which they can play a role in improving outcomes and reducing disparities as needed.
  • Assist in the implementation and development of evidenced based or promising practice programming around perinatal health.
  • Participate in local, state, and national meetings related to perinatal health.

Coordinate and Deliver Group-Based Health and Parenting Education, Including topics such as Prenatal and Perinatal Health, Parenting, and Child Development Education.

  • Recruit and coordinate group education providers
  • Lead and/or Co-facilitate group education offerings using evidence-based methods and curricula
  • Create and distribute educational materials to potential partner organizations and the public
  • Promote understanding of prenatal and perinatal health
  • Collaborate and Communicate with Community Partners and the Public
  • Conduct, participate in and support community-based outreach programs in a variety of venues which may be after normal work hours including weekends
  • Actively participate in meetings and projects with internal and external health partners
  • Work with community organizations to host educational events

Community Collaboration

  • Participate in national, state, and local Maternal and Infant Health Coalitions and other relevant local community meetings
  • Participate and attend conferences and trainings relevant to MCH work
  • Assist efforts to expand participation in the Integrated Referral and Intake System (IRIS)
  • Serve as project manager for organizational and community-based projects as they occur.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. One year of experience engaging and mobilizing individuals, organizations, and groups to address social and/or health issues. Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US drivers license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must complete Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) IS 100 and 700 courses within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years experience engaging and mobilizing individuals, organizations, and groups to address social and/or health issues. Bachelors Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Organizational Leadership, or related field. Self identifies as current or former client of the Sedgwick Co Health Department Healthy Babies Program, r having been affected by the loss of a child during pregnancy or infancy, either personally or close relationship.
