Johnson Controls’ Wichita operation designs, builds and distributes around one million pieces of residential heating and cooling equipment every year. Johnson Controls Wichita builds and assembles some of the biggest HVAC brands in the industry, including York, Luxaire, Coleman, Champion and Guardian.

The primary manufacturing campus sits on 63 acres with a total of 1.3 million square feet. It has also translated into large employment growth in Wichita, where its workforce is around 1,600 employees which is up nearly 22 percent year over year. The Wichita manufacturing facility is the largest non-aircraft manufacturing plant in Wichita. T his position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.

What you will doThe Lean Manager is responsible for advancing Lean within the Wichita facility in practice, adaptation, and cultural integration. Through the implementation of specific strategies, training and advocacy, this role will play a significant piece of bringing the Wichita organization to a new culture. This is achieved through direct and influential leadership of teams and in partnership with all levels if the Wichita employees as well as cross functional leadership teams within the company.

This role will play a major piece in successfully implementing lean in Wichita operations to improve operations and reduce cost by aligning the processes, measurements, standards, and efforts across the facility with the primary focus areas of lean and continuous improvement and the maturation of JCMS. This role is also fully accountable for supporting the creation of an inclusive and positive organizational culture while assisting in the developing a bench of lean skilled talent at the Wichita facility.

How you will do it

  • Provide support in leading the consistent execution of the lean deployment across the facility, Hoshin Planning, KPI Scorecard management and learning, to deliver improved and predictable business results.

  • Drive the applicable Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS) principles to drive the cultural transformation.

  • Support implementation of leader standard work and standard work across the Wichita facility.

  • Collaborate with peers in Norman and other facilities in network to ensure consistency in standard work globally.

  • Drives the culture of true Gemba walks and to ensure the leadership is supporting the associates to drive high performing teams at the facility.

  • Train Wichita teams on lean and support value stream mapping process for improvements.

  • Work with the teams to implement daily management using control centers approach, from the CCC to PCC and the tie into the BCC. (Cell Control Center, Plant Control Center, Business Control Center)

  • Identification of standard metrics to be tracked at CCC, PCC & BCC levels, identify gaps vs plan and work with team members to implement these metrics.

  • Develop and implement idea generation and best practice sharing at the CCC level.

  • Support the facility in preparation of monthly reviews with Operations leaders to review Scorecard, ranking & trend reports, CI Project status & Action Plans.

  • Teach and coach others on effective problem solving that includes exposing true root cause and counter measure creation.

  • Evaluates current business performance and identifies gaps in critical areas which limit efficient operations. Establishes and implements improvement plans and monitors progress to ensure updates achieve desired results and are implemented based on deadlines.

What we look for

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in Continuous Improvement within Operations Management and/or Supply Chain in a lean manufacturing environment.

  • Strong background in continuous improvement, problem solving, quality and/or operations process improvement.

  • Solid background in shop operations process improvement, Lean methodologies, Six Sigma approach and network optimization.

  • Ability to work across as well as upwards in the organization to establish strong working relationships and gain consensus for programs.

  • Ability to work across functions in the organization to champion change. Comfortable to a level of ambiguity and willingness to make decisions based on the information at hand.

  • Ability to influence stakeholders and gain consensus and support as well as manage complex change across the organization. Ability to manage multiple distribution center project teams.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build business partnerships, strong teams and develop talent.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role with responsibility for the productivity or development of others.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to speak and work across all levels of business.
