Sets stops on machine bed, changes dies, and adjusts components, such as ram, when making multiple or successive passes.
Operates drop hammer to bend, form, notch, stretch, punch or straighten metals.
Selects and positions flat, block, radius, or special purpose die sets into ram and bed of machine.
Installs, aligns, and secures gears, holding fixtures, dies to machine bed, using gauges, and/or templates, and hand tools.
Measures workpiece and verifies dimensions and weight, using micrometer, template, straightedge, and scale.
Inspects workpiece for defects.
Lifts, positions, and secures workpiece between dies of machine using crane.
Lubricates workpiece with oil.
Grinds out burrs and sharp edges, using portable grinder, speed lathe and polishing jack.
Handforms, cuts, or finishes workpiece using tools.
Other related duties as assigned.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
Safety glasses are required anywhere on the production floor. Cut protection is recommended for handling sheet metal parts. Protection required when using solvents. Dust masks may be used at the employees discretion. Hearing protection is not required, but is available and recommended. Operators must place the swing-in safety prop between the press platens at all times, except when the press is on the down stroke. Operators must follow the single operator protocol or use helper lock out controls. Failure to use the safety prop or helper lockout controls will result in disciplinary action.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to tolerate long periods of standing and be able to lift 25 to 30 pounds unassisted.
