Job Description: Job Objectives:Maintains and repairs County vehicles and equipment one ton and over and heavy equipment. Performs routine maintenance and diagnostic checks to ensure vehicles operate under the conditions in which they were designed. Must have ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.Essential Job Functions:Perform preventative maintenance on medium duty and heavy equipment and vehicles used by Public WorksPerform basic service work, oil changes, brake inspection and tire inspection and replacement if necessary and any repairs deemed necessary following vehicle inspection.Perform all diagnostic inspections and drivability inspections on vehiclesDrivability inspection, including check engine light diagnosis ABS diagnosis, Air Bag diagnosis and various control module problems.Ability to diagnose electrical issues, brake issuesWill be available for on call snow removal duty when assignedPerform special projects as needed in shopInstalling new technology in vehiclesMechanical damage in wrecked vehiclesUp-fitting Public Works equipment when neededDecommissioning retired vehicles for auction Competencies:Adaptability: Adapts well to changes in assignments and priorities; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles; approaches change positively and adjusts behaviors accordingly; focusing on being part of the solution.Detail-Oriented: Ensures information is complete and accurate; follows up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled. Job Standards:Minimum QualificationsEducational Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent.Years of Experience: Two years' experience as a Mechanic I or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies.License, certifications, etc Must have DL, ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification Physical Requirements of Position:Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Equipment:Must supply own basic tool set Vehicle diagnostic equipment Battery/ Alt. testing equipment A/C Recovery equipment Welders & Torches Bearing Press Brake Lathe Drill Press. Must be able to operate computer Misc. shop equipment.
