Job Summary and Qualifications
Demonstrates the ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of population served, including newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, while providing care/service with respect to cultural differences and spiritual needs
The Paramedic can establish IV access as delegated by a RN Routine IV access includes initiation of an IV saline lock. (The Paramedic may not regulate IV rates, add additional IV fluids, or perform IV irrigation)
Provides assistance with patient care, transportation of patients, specimens and supplies; cleaning and stocking the department, patient rooms and transport ambulance; other duties as assigned
Performs intra facility transport duties adhering to established job description standards of an Paramedic
Performs assigned tasks and activities according to skill level and patient needs as assessed by the RN
The Paramedic supports nursing personnel in providing care to patients and assists with providing a safe, quiet, clean, organized environment for healthcare delivery
Answers telephone and intercom efficiently and courteously, relaying messages and calls to appropriate personnel and other departments as needed
Maintains records, transcribes physician orders, and assures orders are carried out in an expeditious manner
Coordinates activities of nursing unit with other departments
Recognizes when and how to escalate patient concerns up the chain of command
Presents a positive image at all times while directing customers to appropriate areas
Performs all other duties as assigned
What qualifications you will need:
Required Registration, Licensure or Certification:
Current certification/licensure as a Paramedic or EMTA (Emergency Medical Technician Advanced) per state requirements
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course through the American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross - Healthcare Provider CPR
Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) verification course through the American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross - Healthcare Provider CPR within 90 days of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross - Healthcare Provider CPR within 90 days of hire
Required Education or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Education or Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience working in a hospital
