Distinguishing Features of Work
This position is a helper to a Journeyman mechanic. The work involves performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled mechanical tasks in and around a garage in assisting a mechanic who maintains and repairs electric buses and vans and related mechanical equipment. The employee performs duties in accordance with established trade practice and specific oral instructions. Work is subject to close supervision while in process and upon completion.
Work is supervised as needed by a higher-level mechanic or other supervisor.
This is a 1 Year, part-time, temporary position, with a maximum of 20 work hours per week.
Workday and hours will be determined at the time of hire.

Examples of Work Performed
Assists in the repairs and maintenance of all electric vehicle systems with guidance.
Cleans, oils, greases, washes and polishes vehicles.
Performs preventive maintenance inspections on buses.
Dismantles and prepares vehicle equipment for general repairs.
Cleans and assembles tools.
Assists in changing and repairing tires, checking and installing batteries.
Cleans workshop and garage and arranges storeroom.
Performs the duties of Bus Utility Worker when needed.
Makes unassisted trade outs that do not require mechanical repairs.

Requirements of Work
- Some knowledge of the principles of bus mechanics and of the common practices, materials, tools and equipment of the trade.
- Ability to do semi-skilled mechanical repair tasks, and to make routine mechanical installations and adjustments.
- Ability to understand and carry out simple written and oral instructions.
- Skill in the routine use of the standard tools of the mechanic trade.
- Ability to lift, bend, and twist as necessary to remove, repair, or recondition and replace body parts, interior parts, suspension parts, and glass.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to fluids and solvents used in vehicle repair work.
- Ability to perform continuous manual and physical labor while standing on a cement floor. Ability to lift and carry bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds (heavier objects with the assistance of another person).
- Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of pressure using tools that tighten, loosen or cut.
- Ability to work independently on the night shift.
- Ability to provide own hand tools and storage cabinet should job assignment require the use of tools on a regular basis.
- Valid Kansas Driver\'s License with no restrictions.
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply information contained in technical repair manuals
Required Experience and Training
Required Experience and Training
- 1 year experience in servicing and assisting in the repair of vehicular equipment or actively enrolled in automotive repair technical school.
- Completion of mechanical trade courses such as automotive techno logy, diesel mechanics, vehicle maintenance and repair, heavy equipment mechanics, brake systems or related courses.
- A minimum of two years of unrestricted licensed driving experience.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.

- High School Diploma
