Job Description Summary:

Responsible for conducting cancer research focusing on molecular mechanisms of RNA binding proteins, epigenetics and cell signaling mechanisms in colon, bladder and pancreatic cancer. Candidate will learn and perform in vitro and in vivo experiment with genetically engineered mouse models.

Required Qualifications:


+ Qualified candidates must have PhD, MD, DVM (or equiv) in Cancer Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, cell and molecular Biology, Biological/Life Sciences. Candidate should have excellent verbal and written English skills, and experience with cancer biology. All applicants should also have basic bench skills (as listed in lab duties).


Preferred Qualifications:


+ Preferred applicant should be both innovative and highly motivated with broader sense of understanding in cancer biology, RNA biology, and or/ epigenetics. The candidate should have strong work ethic, take initiative to carry out experiments and should be able to independently take lead on research projects.


Job Duties Outlined:


+ Research Overview: Conduct research in understanding the role of RNA binding proteins, lncRNAs and cell signaling in pancreatic and bladder, colon cancer progression. The main focus of the laboratory is to study the role of RNA binding proteins in the cancer.


Position is adaptable to a wide range of skills and will use experiments, cell culture and, animal studies to investigate novel mechanisms of cancer development, progression, and therapeutic sensitivity/resistance.


+ Expectations: The Postdoc will be expected to complete research projects under the guidance of the faculty mentor, record and interpret the results of their experiments, prepare publication-quality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peer-reviewed literature. The applicant will also read literature articles, develop new ideas, and assimilate the information into his/her project design/interpretation.


+ Lab Skills


1. Maintain and grow cancer cell lines, perform cell culture experiments, perform IHC, IF, Western blots, RTPCRs, IP, ChIP, RNA-IP.


2. Animal handling, and perform subcutaneous and orthotopic xenograft mouse models.

3. Maintain and breeding of genetically modified mouse colony, perform genotyping, plan, and carry out animal experiments, euthanize animals if necessary, and collect various tissues.

4. Perform common cell and molecular laboratory techniques. Study transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of gene expression.


5. experience with CRISPR-Cas9 technology, shRNA knockdown, plasmid isolation, microbiological techniques, cloning, lentivirus


+ Dissemination of studies: Interact on a regular basis with their faculty mentor and lab members to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results. Present research findings at department seminars, workshops and at conferences.


+ Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Cancer Biology Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.


+ Submit fellowship applications, as eligible, to bolster research funding and CV building for her/his project.


+ Assist with development of grant proposals, including applicable fellowship award applications.


+ Interact with KU Cancer Center donors and local cancer affiliates.


+ Other duties as assigned.
