POSITION SUMMARY

Residents and faculty from the University of Kansas School of Medicine--Wichitas Internal Medicine Department provide patient care through our clinic. As a Prior Authorization Specialist, you will play a crucial role on our clinical team, supporting new and experienced providers. We are dedicated to continuous quality improvement while providing high quality, efficient health care to patients. We have an amazing staff that promotes teamwork, supports each other, and engages in how the clinic operates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • File requests for medications that require prior authorization via online, phone, or fax as specified by patients insurance coverage.
  • Communicate with healthcare providers to gather necessary documentation for authorization requests.
  • Collaborate with insurance companies to resolve any authorization-related issues or denials.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of authorization requests and approvals.
  • Provide support to patients and healthcare providers regarding insurance coverage and authorization requirements.
  • Prepare patient charts for Medical Directors daily patient load.
  • Assist with patient rooming and provide support for providers when needed.
  • Participate in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operations.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

\ KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of medical ordering and referral processing procedures.
  • Knowledge of insurance plan coverage and referral requirements (includes Medicare, Medicaid, VA and commercial insurance plans).
  • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of patient information.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to perform essential job function with high degree of independence, flexibility, and creative problem-solving techniques.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and prioritization skills.
