Job Purpose: Inspects purchased parts, assemblies, and materials while performing the following duties:

  • Inspects purchased parts, assemblies, and materials for conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments and devices. Examines items for defects in materials, work, and damage occurring in transit.
  • Compares quantity and part number of items received with Certificates of Compliance (C of C), test data, vendor documentation, and other specifications to ensure completeness and accuracy of order.
  • Inspects and measures items for dimensional accuracy, fit, alignment, and functional operation, according to blueprints and other specifications.
  • Identifies, quarantines, and documents non-conforming purchased materials or components in accordance with prescribed procedures and processes as required.
  • Interfaces with Purchasing to resolve parts certification issues.
  • Interfaces with Engineering to resolve print verification issues.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years\' experience with measurement tools preferred; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, work orders, and memos. Ability to read and understand blue prints and inspection procedures. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to apply basic math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in one-on-one situations with management and co-workers, including the ability to speak simple sentences; listens to others without interrupting and get clarification when needed.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions and procedures furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to operate equipment used in the department, including but not limited to calipers, inspection tools, computer measuring machine and computer software.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner and to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Exhibits dependability, including following instructions; responding to supervisors direction; and taking responsibility for own actions.
  • Ability to take initiative, including asking for and offering help when needed; performs work independently without being prompted.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and work within deadlines.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must occasionally kneel or crouch.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision and the ability to distinguish color inspection for electronic components and wiring.
