Newman University Reference & Instruction Librarian in Wichita, Kansas

Occupational Summary:

The Reference and Instruction Librarian oversees and implements the library’s information literacy plan and provides research and information literacy sessions as needed in response to faculty requests. This position also assists the Library Director in developing and maintaining the library collections and providing access to library resources and services for students, faculty, and other library users. Some evening and weekend times are required.

Work Performed:

  • Teach Information Literacy Instruction as requested by faculty (some evening and weekend times required).

  • Collaborate with other Campus units to explore, develop, implement and refine library services.

  • Maintain and create LibGuides for the Library.

  • Maintain Canvas Library Resource “Courses.”

  • Update course content for College Research Literacy course (GNST 2001).

  • Effectively recommend library policies.

  • Perform library reference and public service functions as required.

  • Represent the library at professional meetings and conferences.

  • Maintain awareness of and familiarity with emerging trends in information literacy, library instruction, and instructional technology.

  • Participate in faculty meetings and faculty committees as assigned.

  • Attend and complete all required trainings as mandated by the University including FERPA, Title IX, etc.

  • Contribute to the overall success of the Library by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

    Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  • ALA accredited master’s degree MLS or MLIS (preferred).

  • Experience in the use of and demonstrated familiarity with online databases and integrated library systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service and to work collaboratively with a variety of individuals.

  • Experience with explaining copyright to faculty and staff.

  • Effective oral and written communication, presentation and organizational skills.

  • Ability to perform physical requirements including lifting and moving materials weighing up to 25lbs.

  • Experience with web, digital and electronic library content, production and standards.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
