Newman University Senior Development Officer in Wichita, Kansas

Occupational Summary:

Provide direct support to the development function and activities of the University with an emphasis on planning, organizing and executing fundraising efforts and recognition/stewardship events. This position will manage a portfolio of prospects capable of financially supporting Newman University through major gifts and foster a culture of philanthropy to ensure that fund development is executed in keeping with the organization’s core values, vision, and mission.

As an active member of the Newman Community, this position contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other faiths, cultures, or backgrounds. This position will articulate and connect the work of the office of Institutional Advancement with the Newman University mission and the responsibility to help prepare students to transform the world inspired by Catholic Social Teachings as exemplified by the Newman University Sponsors, The Adorers of the Blood of Christ.

Work Performed:

  • Establish a balanced mix of donor sources and fundraising programs to attract and retain donors and fundraising volunteers.

  • Cultivate relationships with donors and actively engage them to increase their affiliation with the University.

  • Mange the annual Newman Fund and work to meet established fundraising goals through major and deferred giving solicitations and campaign development for Newman University.

  • Manage all gift receiving, record keeping and reporting, and data analysis using Raiser’s Edge software.

  • Monitor and maintain funder reporting schedules and requirements.

  • Organize and direct donor recognition events and oversee all stewardship societies.

  • Continually review and assess the strengths and weaknesses of past fundraising efforts, changes in community structures, economic factors, etc. to establish and implement goals for improving fundraising initiatives.

  • Work with University Relations staff to create materials necessary to implement and strengthen fundraising efforts.

  • Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations and laws, as well as the code of ethics for fundraising professionals.

  • Stay abreast of legislation and policy development at the state and federal level that could impact existing funding and create new opportunities.

  • Complete all University-required trainings including Title IX and FERPA.

  • Contribute to the overall success of the office of Institutional Advancement by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

    Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising or a related field.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle in safe operating conditions, and maintain proof of current insurance.

  • Must pass a motor vehicle check and credit check.

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends in order to meet with donors or host University events.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills essential.

  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet manner.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
