Kaman Corporation Sr. Manager of Engineering in Wichita, Kansas

The Sr. Manager of Engineering is responsible for management of the manufacturing engineering, planning, and design and tool fabrication, functions. They are responsible for managing design engineering contracts and research and development efforts.

  • Designs and plans layout for such activities as forming, lay-up, bonding, machining, metals, composites and plastics processing, assembly, and materials handling. Designs sequence of operations and specify procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance. Incorporates inspection and test requirements into the production plan in accordance with lean manufacturing principles to meet quality, schedule, and cost requirements.

  • Oversees the work order development/maintenance, NC programming, first article inspection criteria, and tool design/fabrication/control to assure conformance to contract delivery requirements.

  • Develops manufacturing engineers to be the producibility experts for the site, providing the assembly and fabrication operators with improvements in tools, methods, equipment, and information using continuous performance improvement methodologies and effective RCCA principles to consistently yield the best possible product for the company and our customer.

  • Oversees the policies that govern the maintenance, release and tracking of drawings and other engineering/ production documents in paper/electronic form, ensuring compliance to customer and regulatory compliance.

  • Oversees the preparation of technical data and plans related to specific customer requirements and estimated related costs to be used in proposal preparation.

  • Performs make vs. buy analysis and provides related recommendations to management

  • Supervises employees assigned to engineering, document control, planning and computer-aided design/manufacturing in accordance with company policies and state/federal laws and regulations.

  • May be required to travel on company business.

  • Provides technical support of company sales efforts.

  • Responsible for properly specifying new machinery.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline required.


  • Minimum of eight (8) years of aerospace/aviation related engineering experience, must have three (3) years’ experience in composites and at least three (3) years in a management function.

  • Experience writing planning and/or management of the planning process is required.

  • Design experience required; Tooling design experience is preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills illustrated through experience.

  • Strong experience and command of computer skills is required:

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Kaizen and/or Lean techniques is preferred.

  • Solid works, Siemens NX, CATIA, is a plus
