As part of VMware’s Threat Management organization, you will be part of a team of service engagement analysts working closely with our service and application teams to implement capabilities to rapidly detect cyber threats that target VMware and our customers. You will work with product and engineering teams to onboard services and applications to ensure Threat Management can detect and respond to evolving cyber threats using leading-edge technology – while working with some of the smartest people in the industry. We are looking for an experienced information security professional to join our team as Service Engagement Analyst. We are building the next generation of cyber detection and response capabilities to enable and protect VMware as we continue to grow.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

You will be part of VMware’s Detection Content Management team, driving the next phase of growth as we protect VMware. Specifically:

  • Independently engage with product and engineering teams to identify cyber threats to services and applications and implement appropriate detection capabilities.

  • Work closely with product and engineering teams to onboard Threat Management detection and response capabilities for services and applications.

  • Collaborate with Threat Detection team on operational threat modeling for services and applications, as well as recommendation and development for appropriate threat detections.

  • Develop strategic relationships with key services for ongoing engagement to ensure detection and response capabilities remain effective as the service or application lifecycle evolves.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Actively engage with product and engineering teams to understand their service and application architectures and assist with onboarding security logging to the centralized SIEM infrastructure.

  • Participate in onboarding of services and applications to environments in scope for various US public sector compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, CMMC, DFARS).

  • Lead onboarding of services and applications across both enterprise and multi-cloud infrastructure (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform) through active collaboration with various security and engineering teams.

  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for each service and application onboarded, for use by the global Detection and Response Team (DART) in defending against cyber threats.

  • Develop and maintain the Threat Management service onboarding process, collaborating with various teams across the business to align with common software development methodologies (Agile), lead continuous improvement and automation, and drive towards a self-service model.

  • Work closely with SIEM engineers (experience with Splunk and Elastic Stack) to properly onboard security logging and drive security logging standards and requirements.

  • Support the Detection and Response Team (DART) and Security Intelligence and Response Team (SIRT) with high priority onboarding efforts for critical threat detection development.

  • Establish highly collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including product, security IT, operations, and engineering teams to drive detection visibility across the business.

  • Participate in operational threat modeling efforts for services and applications as part of the service onboarding process to drive focus and prioritization for threat detection development.

  • Execute project management competencies, work independently, organize and manage detail, and provide updates while onboarding multiple services and applications concurrently.

This role reports to the Technical Program Manager, Threat Management, which is a new position we have added to facilitate the continued growth of the Threat Management organization.

Where is this role located?

Flexible: The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager. You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the office.
