VMware Sr. Software Engineer - Tools - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Wichita, Kansas

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • You will understand the SaaS managed Gateway component functionality, deployment and current workflows around it.

  • Within 30 days of employment, you will become competent with VMware SASE’s deployment and high-level design.

  • You will work closely with Engineering QE, Product Management, Support and Tech Ops to provide day-to-day operations for the SASE portfolio with a focus on the Gateway piece.

  • Within 90 days of employment, you will be able to own end to end Gateway deployments and come up with changes to build management and software architecture.

  • Within 180 days you will be able to work closely with other pillar leads to execute on the cloud-native transformation for the gateway piece.

  • Within 360 days along with above, you will be reviewing new feature request requirement and putting together functional and design specifications in SASE areas. You will be a self-starter and lean into projects until the best solution is found.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

Your regular activities may be modified to suit your professional strengths, but you can expect a variety of the following assignments:

  • You will work as an expert Technical Lead in the team.

  • Collaborate effectively with other staff to solve complex problems.

  • Stay connected with the upstream Ubuntu/Canonical community and be abreast with security patches/vulnerabilities.

  • Automate & run security scans, mitigate security vulnerabilities by directly changing software code, as well as, reaching out to module owners for help.

  • You will make daily hands-on changes in SASE/SDWAN build & release process – OS updates, kernel updates, system level patches using tools such as make, Jenkins, apt, as well as dataplane code using C programming, with emphasis on multi-threaded programming.

  • Build cloud first scalable software and tooling necessary to deploy & manage the software.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The hiring manager for this is role is Arun Sriraman. Arun is an Engineering Manager leading the team leading the distributed control and data plane SASE engineering teams in AMER. He has been with VMware for almost 12 months now. He empowers team lead from all levels. He encourages him team to be accountable and own their areas to drive, motivate the team and help each other and solve problems and brainstorm together. The team is distributed and works across different parts of the united stages. The team, follows a dynamic, open, transparent culture and encourages to learn from each other, teach others and grow along with others being collaborative and courteous.

Where is this role located?

This team has been historically based out of VMware’s Palo Alto office however this role is open to fully remote and can be done anywhere in North America.
