Job Title: Structural Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Design Engineer with a strong experience in mechanical design, particularly with an emphasis on doors. This role involves designing hinge and latch mechanisms and guiding junior engineers in structural design for space vehicles. Responsibilities

  • Design complex kinematic solutions in a conceptual design environment.

  • Guide structural architecture definition through identification and proposing advanced technology.

  • Support design through trade studies, concept development, and interface development.

  • Provide guidance to junior engineers in structural design.

  • Utilize CATIA for part design, assembly design, surface-wireframe, and composites workbench.

  • Design primary and secondary structures using composites.

  • Work with high-temperature material forming.

  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aircraft design with both metallics and composites.

  • Experience in space vehicle design.

  • Proficiency in CATIA V5, particularly in part design, assembly design, and composites workbench.

  • Experience with GFEM (Global Finite Element Models) and DFEM (Detail Finite Element Models).

  • Ability to create and run FEMs for conceptual design work to validate design principles.

  • Knowledge of various material forms and processes for conceptual design trade studies.

  • Ability to execute trade studies considering design solutions for weight, cost, and schedule constraints.

  • Experience working in an IPT (Integrated Product Team) environment with design, fabrication, and assembly functions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in wing design, fuselage design, vertical tail design, air vehicle door design, and stringer/frames/clips design is desired.

  • DoD clearances are required.

  • Experience with high-temperature materials and GD&T.

Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. This role requires onsite presence in a cleared facility to perform the work. The position offers a long-term contract of at least 18 months supporting an Actalent Client onsite as a Tek Systems employee.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $100.00/hr.
