Spirit’s Structural Technology Test Lab (STTL) provides structural and mechanical property test services to all programs at Spirit AeroSystems. With test being one of the final steps in the project/product life cycle, schedule changes and tight deadlines are standard operating conditions. As a team, test lab personnel must work together to provide effective and accurate test solutions to our customers in a timely manner.
The ideal candidate will be required to:
• Perform a variety of duties utilizing electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and similar type systems and equipment to perform a wide variety of tests • Construct, fabricate, assemble, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, diagnose, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems (primarily hydraulic, electrical and computer based equipment) • Support tests ranging from coupon to large scale assembly rig tests • Support testing within the lab environment as well as remotely on shop floor and/or customer test facilities as required • Instrument test articles using standard instrumentation devices such as thermocouples, strain gauges, accelerometers, etc. • Obtain IPC certification for electrical aspects of instrumentation installations • Work from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions • Operate related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format • Analyse data to determine whether instrumentation is functioning correctly upon installation • Perform calibration and alignment checks, planning, modifications, and replacements as directed • Work effectively and supportively in a team environment while being able to work independently with minimal oversight • Coordinate lifting of items and assemblies, some potentially heavy, either individually, with other personnel or specialty lifting devices including overhead cranes • Work with potentially hazardous equipment or on potentially hazardous test activities, following all safety equipment and processes mandated for those activities • Work directly with internal customers in a supportive and positive manner • Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally, to support testing at customer facilities • Work directly (at times with no other Spirit personnel present) with external customers in a supportive and positive manner that reflects Spirit values and commitment to excellence
HS diploma required. Associate degree in a technical field preferred
8 or more years’ hands-on mechanical experience
Experience assembling mechanical systems
Experience working with electrical systems
Ability to work from drawings and schematics
Experience working with various hand tools
Experience with hydraulic systems
Experience operating MTS load frames
